Rep. Dan Bartel has introduced legislation to prohibit nonprofit organizations from buying agricultural land in Montana. When discussing the legislation (âLetâs stop APR from abusing tax code,â Belgrade News, March 25), Mr. Bartel explicitly cites American Prairie Reserve as an intended target of this bill.
Mr. Bartelâs legislation amounts to an unconstitutional government overreach into the private exchange of property between willing sellers and buyers. It empowers the government to dictate who private property owners can and cannot sell their land to. It denies an entire class of landowners the basic property right of buying and owning land. Every Montana landowner should be alarmed by the dangerous precedent this sets.

The American-British rock band produced a string of mega-hits like âCold As Iceââ and âI Want to Know What Love Is.ââ Mayor Butch Lee would love to see fans show up in big numbers that Sunday evening in his hometown.

The Beijing International Big Data Exchange, which was set up in the capital city on Wednesday with a registered capital of 200 million yuan ($30.46 million), is expected to play a key role in China s digital economy promotion efforts and facilitate more data-based transactions in the country.
Established by Beijing Financial Holdings Group and government agencies like the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, the exchange will become critical infrastructure for data security, data operations and cross-border data transactions.
Eight years after moving into her Old Southwest apartment, Roanoke resident Rhenda Milman hopes a rent relief application or a long-awaited backlog of unemployment payments due to her will clear an outstanding balance with the landlord.
With a court hearing scheduled next week, Milman is one of hundreds of city residents facing the possibility of eviction. Although a recently extended federal order has stopped landlords from evicting pandemic-impacted tenants for now, the moratorium will end eventually â and tenants will still be responsible for paying all of their back rent.
âTrouble with unemployment,â Milman said. âIâm still waiting for months. Iâve not been able to get in touch with anyone from the unemployment office.â
Closures and an outbreak
Officials and staff who routinely used City Hall for work had to make adjustments, as the building closed to the public on March 23. However, the building did reopen during the second phase of Reopening Oregon, which happened on June 8.
The reopening was short-lived as City Hall had to be closed down for a second time on July 1. The announcement was made on the city of Ontarioâs Facebook page with the words âuntil further noticeâ following.
The second closure was in response to an outbreak of COVID that occurred in early July.
The building was subsequently cleaned with an electrostatic sprayer following the closure.
